A few blocks from the beach, this zoo is home to over 300 animals. In operation since 1989, it encompasses 17 acres and a collection of creatures that include tigers, macaws, monkeys, lions and bears. An aviary and petting zoo are also on site. The zoo is open daily from 9am to 4pm, closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The Claude Peteet Mariculture Center was constructed in 1973 to serve as a research facility for estuarine and marine ecology. Today it continues to study red snapper, shrimp and various finfish. It includes brackish water ponds and greenhouses.
